Plymouths were very popular during the 30s and 40s. The Plymouth Deluxe consisted of several models over this period. As usual for American cars, changes were made every year. From 1946 to 1949 the cars looked pretty much the same, but from 1950 the model was changed, with visible endings such as a new grill pattern, larger rear window, changed bumpers and taillights. The standard engine was a 3,6-litre flat-top straight-six. It produced 95 HP for the models through 1949, and 97 HP for the 1950 model.
Deluxe was an umbrella term for many variants. It was produced as a 2- and 4-door sedan, coupé, convertible and station wagon. Until 1950, "woodie" station wagons were also made with wooden decorations on the sides. Furthermore, there were long and short wheelbases. In terms of equipment, there were also 2 variants "Deluxe" and the top edition "Special Deluxe".
About the pictures
The red Plymouth Special Deluxe Convertible is photographed at the Cadillac Diner on Tretten on a fine autumn day. The black 1950 model is pictured at Easter time 2016 in Argelès-sur-Mer in France. The Norwegian red coupe with a fixed roof is pictured at Sanngrund (E16) in 2021. It represents the model years from 1946 to 1949. Another car in the same year class is the beige Special Deluxe 4-door sedan with Telemark signs. It was photographed at Sjøterrasen in Bamble and is probably a Norwegian car.
