Ferrari's model history becomes more complicated the further back in time you go. Early models were made in small numbers and short production runs that could only last a few months. This makes it difficult to date models to the correct year of manufacture.
From racing to fast road cars
The very first models were influenced by Ferrari's focus on racing. From the latter half of the fifties , Gran Turismo models appeared – that is, cars designed to be used on regular roads for two people and a handbag. These are the cars we have pictures of here. Terje's cars have managed to collect pictures of 4 different models from the period between 1958-1964. The model was named 250 based on the fact that the displacement was 250 cc in each cylinder. Multiplied by 12, it becomes 3000 cc – that is, 3 liters. The model first appeared in 1953 and went out of production in 1964. Ferrari 250 GTs are real collectors' items.
Ferrari 250 GT Coupé Pininfarina (1958-1960)
The car in the main picture at the top is a classic Gran Turismo of which only a few hundred copies were made. It is equipped with a 3 liter V12. The picture was taken at one of the Norsk Sportsvogn Klubb's spring rallies at Øvrevoll outside Oslo.
Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta "Tour de France" (1956-1958)
The car pictured is probably the last series – out of a total of 4 – of this model. The 3-liter in this car is supposed to originally produce 260 HP. The photos were taken at the London Concours 2019.
Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder
The picture was taken a few years ago at the Norsk Sportsvogn Klubb's spring rally at Øvrevoll outside Oslo.
Ferrari 250 GT Luxury
Lusso (luxury) was designed to offer an even better Gran Turismo concept - more space. I don't know if the slightly more bulging body gave much more interior space, but it undoubtedly looked very nice. This model has been voted in several forums to be among the top ten in terms of beauty and elegance. Inside it was still a two-seater. The "back seat" was only a padded storage space for bags and the like.
About the pictures
The pictures of the black car were taken in Norway, Øvrevoll gallop outside Oslo. The main picture was taken at one of the Norwegian Sports Car Club's spring shows, here in 2018. The pictures further down were taken at a Cars & Coffee car show – also in 2018. The other pictures were taken at the London Concours 2019.
