Studebaker Hawk
The Hawk was produced in several models and series between 1953 and 1963, although the models were built more or less on the same bed. It was a full-size 2-door coupé or hardtop with 4 seats. The Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk - also called the GT Hawk - was the last, produced from 1962 until production ceased in December 1963. The last model year produced was 1964.
Model history
The engines in the cars were a 289 V8 engine with 214 hp from Studebaker. The following year, you could order the R1 engine with 240 hp and the R2 with a supercharger that gave 289 hp. The year models can be distinguished by the following visual characteristics: The 1962 model has rectangular parking lights, which were changed to round from the 1963 model. The 1962 and 1963 models had a "fake" rear grill which disappeared in the 1964 model.
European inspiration
In retrospect, it is easy to see that the design of Studebaker's latest car models was ahead of its time. Seen through American eyes, they were inspired by European car models. As for the Gran Turismo Hawk, it's easy to see the resemblance to Mercedes-Benz, especially around the front with the upright grill with a circular symbol on top. Studebaker were popular in Norway in the 50s and 60s. The cars - or what is left of them - are restored and maintained through the motor club Eight Amcar Club in Sørum. Studebaker belongs to one of the 8 brands that disappeared in the competition with the three big American car groups.
