Model history
Pontiac has profiled itself as a "performance" alternative in the GM family. Generation 2 of the Pontiac LeMans was produced from the 1964 model year up to and including 1967. It is based on GM's A platform, which is shared with the Chevrolet Chevelle, among other things. In 1964 these were American mid-size cars. LeMans was produced in several variants, including as a 2-door hardtop without pillar and convertible, 2- and 4-door sedan - and from model year 1966 also as a 4-door hardtop. The top model was the LeMans GTO (1964-1965). From model year 1966, the Pontiac GTO was sold as a separate model. Like other American models of the time, some changes were made every year. The biggest changes occurred from the 1965 model year with a new front with upright lights and a longer body with a more marked Coke-bottle shape.
The LeMans was considered a sporty model - something the name also reveals.
About the pictures
The main photo was taken in Kunstnergaten in Fornebu. It is a 1964 model originally with 215 straight sixes. From the 1965 model year, the model got vertical headlights. The red convertible in Borggården Oslo is a 1966 model. It was photographed on the occasion of a car meet there in 2015.
