First Audi

The Audi 100 (C1) came in 1968 and together with the Audi 60 (as well as the 80 and 90) formed Audi's model range in the early years. With the internal designation "C1", the Audi 100 can be described as the first Audi. The Audi 60 had its roots at DKW, and bore the internal designation "F103", which is a DKW designation. That is why we can call the Audi 100 the first modern Audi.

Model history

The C1 was made as a 2- and 4-door sedan and coupe. For the 1974 model year, the models received a mild facelift. Those in the know can see that the chrome strip, which surrounds the headlights and grill, got a small crack at the top corners. The C1 was replaced by the C2 for the 1977 model year.

About the pictures

Regarding the pictures of the green Audi 100LS in the US version: In Europe, in 1977, only the C2 was sold, – but in the US the C1 continued for another year. I am not entirely sure where the C1 was produced for the US market in 1977. Audi is said to have produced cars at Volkswagen-Werke in Wolfsburg at one point – as a relief from production in Ingolstadt. It is not inconceivable that the US models were produced in Wolfsburg.

Note the American bumpers which this year were reinforced with bumper horns to meet the increasingly stringent government crash requirements. The car is original with barely 30 miles on the odometer.

The photo of the Audi 100 Coupé S was taken at a stand at the Ekeberg market. The blue Audi 100 Coupé participated in the Oslo Motor Show 2024. It is a facelift model.
