Sequel to Lotus Seven
Caterham took over the production of the Lotus Seven, when it was shut down in 1972. The Caterham 7 can thus be considered a "Continuation Model". The model is still going strong, and has undergone ongoing improvements and upgrades. Compared to the original, the chassis must be stretched and reinforced to accommodate larger engines - and drivers. It's no secret that not just anyone could find a place in an original Lotus Seven. There is not a lot of space in the Caterham, either. But that's part of the concept. It's pure, nostalgic sports car concept.

Kit or factory built?
You can build the car yourself according to a 6-point plan from Caterham. One of the steps is to arrange production space in your own garage. Another step is to get the car approved. The nearest dealer is Caterham Nordic located in Löddeköpinge outside Malmö in Sweden. Alternatively, you can choose "factory built" or another ready-made car - new or used. If you buy a new car, you can have the pleasure of configuring it yourself. Engine choices are 660 cc Suzuki Turbo, 1.6 Ford Sigma, or 2.0 Ford Duratec. An electric variant will also be coming soon. Prices start at €37395 for the SUPER SEVEN 600 (Suzuki). With equipment, you will probably end up at £42000, or more. In addition, there are Norwegian taxes.

Caterham Superlight

About the pictures
The model in the main picture is probably a 1994 Caterham Super Seven 1700 Super Sprint, equipped with a Ford Kent engine drilled up to 1.7 liters with 135 hp. It is stated to be able to cover 0-100 in 5,6 seconds with a top speed of 180 km/h. The subjective experience of speed in a vehicle like this must be phenomenal! The car with a personal registration number was photographed at Fornebu in connection with the Norwegian Sports Car Club's spring meeting in 2018. It has a 2-liter engine with 165 hp. The interior photo comes from a car that participated in the Veteranbildagen 2022 at Tofte in Hurum. The racing-green car is pictured at a Cars & Coffee meeting at Øvrevoll gallop. It is a 1987 Super Seven 1600 GT.
Caterham Superlight
The orange car was photographed during Hobbykjøretøyets Dag 2022 in Hof in Vestfold. It is a Caterham Superlight R300. The nighttime photo was taken at one of the member meetings the Norwegian Sports Car Club has had at Sjøflyhavna at Rolfstangen outside Oslo. It is a Superlight R500. It is also the white car. It was photographed at Cars & coffee at Øvrevoll galopp 2025. These are cars that barely weigh over 500 kg with engines that produce 230-270 hp or more.
