It was slightly wider, slightly longer and slightly faster than its predecessor. The Ascona B was a car that was on many people's wish lists.
Model history
The Ascona B was produced in the model years 1975-1981. The model received a small facelift from model year 1980 with, among other things, a new grid pattern in the grill and plastic bumpers. The cars could be delivered as 2- and 4-door sedans. In terms of level of equipment, the SR was the best, with a sports steering wheel, sports rims, a matte black field between the rear lights and more. In the 80s, Opel made a nice campaign model, called the Ascona J (Jung), which appeared as an "SR light". Among the engines delivered to Norway were the 1,3 S (75 GK), 1,9 S (90 HP). The Ascona was the sister model to the more sporty model Manta. Ascona B could also be delivered with larger engines, such as 2,0 S (100 HP), 2,0 E with injection 110 HP, as well as 2,4 E (144 HP). The Ascona 400 did well in WRC rally with a trimmed version of the 2,4 liter engine.
A good exterior and a pleasant interior
The Asconas became popular, both as family cars - and later as youth cars. The cars had a great, GM-inspired design - and ran well. I myself have driven a 1,9 S when it was relatively new - and I am left with a good impression. On the road, it delivered well in all branches. It was a car that was easy to like.
