Downsized full sizer
Before the fifth generation of the Cadillac DeVille was launched, GM was in the process of downsizing its cars in line with the general development of the car market after the oil crisis of the early 70s. The new model was approximately 25 cm shorter and more than 200 kg lighter than its predecessor. But the Cadillac in the picture is far from a small car. Well, it was smaller than its predecessors, but compared to the other cars parked at Hvervenbukta in Oslo, the Cadillac appears enormous. Cadillac continued the downsizing over several years.
Model history
Cadillac's 5th generation DeVille was produced from 1977 through the 1984 model year. Based on images, visual model changes appear as follows:
The 1978 model received a new pattern in the grill and changed rear lights with chrome surrounds. The 1979 model got a new grill. In 1980, the entire front end was changed, the rear window more upright and a new rear bumper - all to give the car a tighter, more upright shape.
Engines
In the first years, the standard engine was a 7,0 liter V8 with 180 or 195 HP. From the 1980 model, the only V8 option was a 6,0 V8 with 150 HP - as part of ongoing downsizing. From the 1982 model year, the V8 option was further scaled down to a 4,1 liter V8 with 136 HP. From 1981, it should also have been possible to order the DeVille 5 with a V6 engine.
