The Lincoln Continental Mark IV differs from its predecessors in that the lines were straightened. Apart from the arch above the tailgate, the whole car could have been drawn with a ruler.
Fake continental kit
The arch above the rear lid has the contours of a continental kit, that is, the spare wheel should be mounted standing behind the boot. But the arch is only a decorative element. The spare wheel lies flat/slanted against the rear axle and the back seat as in most other American cars.
Model follow-up
The Lincoln Continental Mark IV was produced from model years 1972 through 1976 while the Mark V was produced from model years 1977 through 1979. Both were based on the 5th generation Lincoln Continental. With a total length of 5,85 metres, it was large even for an American. The downscaling began from the next model, so that the Mark IV remains one of the last large full-size cars - and in the opinion of many - the most beautiful. As is typical for American cars, changes were made for each model year, but none particularly visible from the outside. Many chose vinyl roofs - either entirely or in "landau" style where only the rear part was covered in vinyl. Color-coordinated exterior and interior, and the choice of fabrics played a major role. Several special models were made. Engine-wise, the Lincoln Continental Mark IV and V were available with either a 400 cubic inch V8 or 460 (7,5 litres). The smallest standard engine produced 179 HP - the large 208 HP.
Popular in Norway
It might be a bit of a stretch to say that the Lincoln Continental Mark IV and V are popular, but you can say that there are many of them left on the road in relation to the cars' original price range, age - and the fact that there was no importer who brought new cars into Norway. About 200 Mark IV and V are listed in the vehicle register, some of which have been deregistered, hopefully due to renovation work. On Finn.no At the time of writing, there are 11 cars for sale. Several of the photos were taken in connection with 2 different car meets at RøhneSelmer Asker and Bærum for Lincoln. There is great enthusiasm and interest in Lincoln in Norway - especially the Mark IV.

About the pictures
The photos were taken on the occasion of an autumn meeting for the Lincoln & Continental Owners Club of Norway held at RøhneSelmer in Billingstad. All the cars pictured have Ford's 460 V8 engine (7,5 litres). The car in the park is from a 4th of July celebration in Frognerparken.
