Lancia Delta

The Lancia Delta was designed in the late seventies. Unmistakably Italian, not flashy or fancy, – very compact with minimal front and rear overhang.

When Lancia collaborated with Saab

There are still good drivable Deltas out on the net with 1300 engines of 75 HP. Originally made in collaboration with Saab, and launched at the same time here at home as the Saab-Lancia 600, or something like that. One can guess a Golf competitor, and a successor to the Saab 96. But the Lancia-Saab did not make a good impression. The few that were sold here at home have long since rusted away. The Saab 9000 actually fared much better. It shared a platform with the Lancia Thema. But that's another story.

Made success on the rally tracks

One only needs to take a quick look at the Delta to see that it is an excellent starting point for rallying. The Delta Integrale with four-wheel drive was marketed under the slogan: No matter how fast you turn, it won't leave the road. Miki biasion, juha kankkunen og Mark Alen made great success for Lancia in the WRC (World Rally Championship) in the late 80s and early 90s.

Lancia Delta 2

Lancia Delta (1993-1999)

The first Lancia Delta (Tipo 831) was produced for a full 14 years – probably kept alive by its good results in rallies. In 1993, however, the Delta mk2 (Tipo 836) was put into production. The model is built on the same platform as the Fiat Tipo and shared an engine program with Fiat – first Tipo then – from 1996 – Bravo.

About the pictures

The red Lancia Delta HF in the main picture is pictured at Lysaker outside Oslo. It is probably an Integrale 2,0i.e. 16V Turbo with four-wheel drive. The red Delta with Integrale symbols was photographed at the Norsk Sportsvogn Klubb's spring rally at Øvrevoll in 2017. The yellow is pictured at a car meeting outside Perpignan in France. The light blue Delta 2 is photographed in a residential area in the south of France.
