V70 with D2 120 horses and automatic transmission must be very boring, I thought. The new D2 engine is a scaled-down D3, ie Volvo's own 2-litre. If this is to work, everything has to be right, - not least how the power is delivered through the gearbox. It must utilize the rev ranges where the "small" turbodiesel has the best torque. The drivetrain was fine. You don't get this drivetrain in the new V90, but in the V60 or V40.
The V70 is no longer in the new car department, and it must be fair to call it a tank side trunk. But if you take a V70 out on the road, you get a kind of goodwill from fellow road users.
