I have sett the, taken on it and sat in the.
The Opel everyone is talking about is on a short visit to Norway. Specifically at Youngstorget in connection with the annual Zero conference. It is not every day that you get the opportunity to come into close contact with the new Opel Ampera e. It may be a while until the next time.
High-rise B-class
In terms of size, the car is the same size as the Renault Captur, a car I recently returned. A check of the external measurements confirms the assumption. The cars have exactly the same wheelbase and width, but the Ampera is 2 cm higher than the Captur, and 4 cm longer. With a total length of 4,17 metres, the Ampera falls in terms of size into the high-built subcompact, or B-class. In addition to the Renault Captur, we find cars such as the Peugeot 2008, Citroën C3 Picasso and Ford EcoSport in the same class.
Plenty of room for 4 adults
Since everyone wanted to sit for a test ride, all the seats were filled all the time, - and I took the opportunity to check the space conditions inside. There was plenty of room for 4 adults. The luggage compartment is stated to be 481 liters on paper and is divided into two parts. In terms of volume, it is the size of a family car, but the loading edge does not look very friendly for those with bad backs. I find it impressive that the batteries don't seem to steal any space. They must be placed flat under the entire car. Good for both space and driving characteristics.
What can you expect from the new Ampera e?
The range is stated to be over 500 km. The engine produces 204 HP and takes the car from 0-100 in 7,3 seconds. You can choose to drive with one pedal, as in the BMW i3, where you accelerate and brake with the accelerator pedal. The advantage of this concept is that the systems in the car can make maximum use of the braking energy for charging. And speaking of charging, you can quickly charge a range of 150 km in just 30 minutes.
Will the Ampera e live up to expectations?
The first time I connected to the Internet was in 1996. If someone had told me at the time how the Internet would develop, I would not have believed them. Electric cars today are where the Internet was 20 years ago. The Opel Ampera e is otherwise the same car as the Chevrolet Bolt EV. GM has realized that the future can no longer be based on a rigid frame, leaf springs and V8 engines with pushrods. Now the General himself is rattling his sabers. Of course the GM can make this happen!
After having close contact with the Ampera e and seeing the enthusiasm of the other guests at the exhibition, I am sure that this will be a real Norwegian car!
14.12.2016: Opel has announced the prices of the new Opel Ampera-e. They start from NOK 299!
Newer photos
(1.2.2020) Terje's cars have not yet had the opportunity to try the Opel Ampera, but we are working on the matter. It would be interesting to see if the Ampera can still hold its own against the newer models, such as the Hyundai Kona. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures we took along the way.
