Pictures from the Oslo Motor Show

Exporama

First proper spring weekend in 2018. In the center of Oslo it is 23 degrees and sunny. At Ramstad, AutoXO goes on a spring trip with its sports car customers. At Øvrevoll Galloppbane, car enthusiasts gather for Cars & Coffee. And at Exporama north of Oslo, the country's largest car exhibition of classic cars is held. Oslo Motor Show collected cars from various sources. Private cars from individual owners, collectors, car and equipment shops, and local car clubs.

Difficult lighting conditions

It is not easy to take good pictures of polished cars inside exhibition halls full of bright fluorescent tubes. It shines everywhere. The colors become unnatural. In addition, heads, arms and stomachs appear from all sides. It's not just finding pictures that are good enough to post online. As usual, I used my handy, bright one-handed pocket camera, Sony DSC-RX100III. I have grouped the photos under "Supercars", "Italy", "Ford" and "Other fine cars".

I only post pictures of cars (and things) I like. Use the comment field at the bottom to correct or supplement information if you know anything about the cars.

Supercars - Cars you don't see every day

Oslo Motor Show
Ferrari Dino 246 GT. The designation "246" is, in good Ferrari style, made up of engine size and number of cylinders, i.e. 2,4 liters and 6 cylinders. In 1970, a proper Ferrari should have 12 cylinders, not 6. Dino laid the foundation for today's 8-cylinder Ferraris, such as the 308 and so on. Who does not remember the TV series The Golden Boys or "Snobs who work"? Roger Moore and Tony Curtis captured bad guys and villains in between their leisurely jet set lives. Tony Curtis drove a red Dino.

When you see one Lamborghini Countach with the entire drivetrain out, one gets the impression of what driving machines mid-mounted V12 drivetrains really are.

French Gran Turismo. This is a Facel Vega Excellence from 1961 equipped with a 5,9 liter Chrysler engine.

Oslo Motor Show
This spectacular rear belongs to the supercar DeTomaso Mangusta. It has a 5-liter Mustang engine. Design: Giugiaro.

Oslo Motor Show
This Escort stood together with an Ur-Quattro with a short wheelbase. They gave flashbacks to the 80s rally/rally cross.

Ferrari Mondial Convertible is a lovely Pininfarina design. The Mondial was produced in parallel with V8s such as the 308, 328 and 348 and shared powertrains with them. The pictured model has the 3,2 liter V8 from the 328.

Italy - The country where common sense never prevailed

Oslo Motor Show
First time I experienced one Fiat Abarth 600 along the road, I thought: - Someone has modified their Fiat at home in the garage. The extremely raw sound and the engine cover in the open position indicated that. I didn't know that it was the racing company Abarth that was behind it. Visible and audible. Typical Italian. In the background is a Fiat 500 Abarth and something as rare as a Fiat 238 van.

Oslo Motor Show
The different generations of Alfa Romeo Spider characterized by their rear parts. This is an early version with its "round tail" rear, - the most beautiful of them all. Note the other classic Alfas here. Clockwise, GT, Alfetta rebuilt with modern Alfa sixes, as well as a GTV.

alfasud

Oslo Motor Show
Although alfasud was not a particularly expensive car, it has gained great popularity as a classic. It may be connected to the fact that they were poorly protected from rust, so that many disappeared from the road. This Alfasud 1,5 TI from 1983 looks like new, because it has barely been on the road. It has extremely low mileage. I remember when Alfasud was launched. A collective automotive press praised Alfa Romeo for creating a model for ordinary people. An alternative to the Fiat 128 Sport. Alfasud and Alfetta are from the same era, - and both are cars for ordinary people. A trend you could say that Alfa Romeo has continued with?

Alfa Romeo GT. Stylish in the company of other great Euro classics. The 1300 engine with 90 HP (standard) moves the 1100 kg light car around nicely on Italian country roads. Here you don't have to drive terribly fast to have fun 🙂

Oslo Motor Show
If you live on the ground floor, I would consider refurnishing the living room to make room for an area Alfa Romeo GT.

Ford – High nostalgia factor

Oslo Motor Show
Ford Consul Capri. The regular versions, Classic, had a slanted rear window like the Ford Anglia. The coupé model, the Consul Capri, looks fantastic. Especially from the back. With its moderate wings, it seems inspired by Lincoln from the same era. I imagine the parent company in Detroit had the final say before a new model was put into production.

Oslo Motor Show
Inside just as it should have been in the early sixties. And self-conscious hardtop – without side pillar.

Ford M

Oslo Motor Show
Ford 17M P7A was only produced for 4 months before being redesigned. I think the most beautiful P7 was before the upgrade, especially this variant, Coupé Hardtop without center pillar.

Oslo Motor Show
This green interior belongs to a Ford P7 after facelift. The car is equipped with a 2,6 liter V6 with automatic transmission. Top model with luxurious interior and gorgeous wooden inlays.

Ford Escort RS2000. The roughest Escort mk1 you could get.

RS rims. The RS decor is also quite nice.

Originally an American

Oslo Motor Show
Ford 12M P4 went on sale in 1962 as the first Ford with front-wheel drive. Originally it was developed in the US as the Ford Cardinal. When the project was finished, it was ditched due to market considerations. German Ford took over and put the model into production, supposedly completely unchanged compared to the American spec. At one point, Ford USA is said to have announced that they wanted to offer the 12M in the US, but it is unknown if any were taken in for sale there.

RS2000 Ford Escort mk1 are grateful objects to work with. It has gained popularity with many. I think it's great that the young people also feel for them.

Other nice cars

Oslo Motor Show
Datsun 180 B. Great family car from the late 70s. It was of course the SSS coupé model that was the best looking. I stopped at the station wagon that was standing next to it. Old memories. Simple, durable and good cars as long as you didn't sloppy with the Tectyl/Dinol treatment.

Oslo Motor Show
Volvo 142E. 1971 was a good vintage of the 140 series. It then also topped the sales list this year. Not bad for such a large car. Prices started just below NOK 40. In comparison, the average annual salary was NOK 000. Externally, the '34 models are characterized by the new grill without recessed door handles. It didn't come until the following year. Note the registration number which tells you what kind of car this is.

Opel Rekord C

Oslo Motor Show
Opel Rekord C, which arrived in 1967, was a success for Opel. The gorgeous coupé version shared almost all body parts with the sedans.

Oslo Motor Show
Large family car in 1967-71. Many varieties to choose from. 4-door and 2-door sedan, 5-door and 3-door station wagon, - and the finest of them all, - Coupé. This is a 1900 S with 90 HP.

Oslo Motor Show
In the sixties, people liked to have a nodding dog on the hat shelf. The head was rocking while the car was driving. I remember these well. They were quite heavy to lie steady on the hat shelf, although that was not so good if the car were to stop suddenly. The picture was taken inside a Goggomobile.

Oslo Motor Show
1960 Chrysler New Yorker Station Wagon as big as an aircraft carrier. 3 seats with 3 places in each. 5,59 meters long, over 2 meters wide. 6,8 liter V8 from the so-called "RB" series (Raised Block) which produces 355 HP in the standard version.

Oslo Motor Show
Welcome to Chrysler! The third bench row is probably best suited for the young due to the somewhat complicated access. Where did the big American station wagons go? They have been replaced by SUVs and MPVs. In wealthy American families, mother often drives these cars, while father has a sporty sedan or coupé.
