The American Independence Day is marked with cruising by American cars in several places in Norway. But the closest we get to a real, American Independence Day Celebration is the one held in Frogner Park last Sunday.
4 July is not an official holiday in Norway. Therefore, the celebration had to be added to the nearest Sunday so that everyone could participate. The organizers are ACCN - American Coordinating Council of Norway. It is a voluntary organization with the aim of promoting relations between America and Norway, which the celebration of Independence Day really did. Stalls with American food, live entertainment, ball games, a sack race and a watermelon-eating competition were on the programme. And – as in previous years – there was an exhibition of classic American cars behind the scene. The cars helped to create an American atmosphere and again gathered spectators of all ages this year.
