Oslo Motor Show 2024

BMW 3.0 CSL Homage R

"By enthusiasts, for enthusiasts" is one of the slogans for the Oslo Motor Show, which filled NOVA Spektrum in Lillestrøm last weekend. The organizer lined up exhibitors for all genres within cars and motorbikes. I have chosen to divide the photos into three categories, - Show Cars, New cars and Enthusiast cars.

Show Cars

BMW 3.0 CSL Homage R (main image) was first shown on Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2015. Now it was on loan for the Oslo Motor Show 2024. It is about a concept car built by BMW as a modern version of the legendary 3.0 E9 CSL (Coupé Sport Leicht). The car is not just a style study, but fully drivable with drivetrain from BMW's 4 series and in a lightweight version like the original.

The car in the picture below is one 1976 BMW 3.0 CSL Frank Stella Art Car - that is, an art project carried out by the artist Frank Stella and BMW. Car as art is not an unfamiliar concept, and the beautiful BMW E9 is perfectly suited. The car is fully drivable, and under the shell is a genuine BMW 3.0 CSL.

Show car - "Scandinavia's most beautiful car"

One of the departments at the Oslo Motor Show is called Scandinavia's most beautiful car. I don't know if it only applies to one of the cars - or several. Typical of these cars is that they show first-class car construction. Custom-built cars like this become an attraction at car shows. The car in the picture above is called wild bird, - and if I'm not mistaken, one can sense the contours of a 1958 Ford Thunderbird. The car is a project of Bosse "Gamen" Sandberg and his nephew.

The pictures below don't just show cars under "Scandinavia's most beautiful cars", but cars that are on display and surrounded by show effects, as they should be at a motor show.

Ford Capri EV

Ford Capri

New Ford Capri has nothing in common with the original from 1969. This year's Capri is built as a Crossover SUV with a coupe-like glass body. Under the windows is the same car as the Ford Explorer EV - which is again based on the Volkswagen ID.4. Ford and Volkswagen have entered into collaboration on several models, which may make them better equipped to face competition from China. For those of us who experienced the original Ford Capri, it feels wrong when Ford reintroduces the model as a heavy Crossover. The Capri name should have been saved until they had developed an electric platform also for low-built, sleeker cars - where the Chinese already have a good head start.

Polestar 4

The Polestar 4 has become known in the media as the car without a rear window, where the inside mirror has been replaced with a small flat screen placed in the same place. The solution has received strong criticism from experts, although there are already many solutions where external mirrors are replaced by monitors. Of all the new models present, you can probably say that this was the most talked about new car at the Oslo Motor Show 2024. A very interesting newcomer.

Tesla Cybertruck

The Tesla Cybertruck looks no better in reality than it does in pictures. If you didn't know better, you'd think it was homemade. Shapeless and oversized. It is difficult to understand that Tesla would steal pickup customers from Ford, Chevrolet or RAM. Nevertheless, Cybertruck has already managed to become an icon. It is not certain that the pickup of the future will have the same shape, but it can be a good platform for testing the concept among innovative customers.
