Changes in the automotive industry have led car dealers here at home to turn their attention to China to find new car brands to represent. Here are some Chinese car brands that (maybe) are on their way to Norway.
For us Norwegians, Chinese car brands do not evoke any positive feelings. Quite the opposite. But German BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen are already heavily involved in the Chinese car industry. Stellantis has bought into Chinese Leapmotor and Volvo is, as is well known, owned by Geely. Several “Western” car models are currently produced in China, and the European car industry is still dependent on importing lithium batteries from countries like China.
If one were to point out the advantages of Chinese car brands, it is natural to mention priceBut we haven't seen any real "price bombs" from China yet, apart from price cuts at local car dealers. Maybe they'll appear this year as competition between car brands increases?

Dongfeng Motor Corporation is one of the largest car manufacturers in China with the production of several independent car brands also in collaboration with Western car manufacturers. Dongfeng is already represented in Norway through the luxury brand Voyah. At the other end you will find the car brand Dongfeng Yummy with the cheap car BoxThe cars are imported into Norway through a company owned by Sulland Group. There are already 35 registered Nammi Box cars in this country that can be inspected and test driven. The cars are offered with two battery packs – the smallest, 31.4kWh – gives a range of 200 km, while a larger battery pack of 32,3kWh gives a range of 310 km. Prices start at 199.900 for the cheapest and 217.900 for the larger battery pack. The cars are 4 meters long. The long wheelbase (266 cm) gives quite a lot of space in the cabin.

Leap motor
In 2023, Stellantis acquired 20% of Leapmotor. They have entered into a partnership for the distribution of cars in Europe and probably also the production of Leapmotor T03 in Poland. Today, the car brand is represented in all European countries, except Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Stellantis probably prioritizes sales of the small car T03. Cars like this are more popular on the continent than here at home. A model that is better suited for the Nordic market is the new crossover model C10.

Aion
Aion is a relatively new company (2017) that is currently the 3rd largest manufacturer of electric cars. The parent company GAC Group has been around since the 1950s. Aion has several models. Aion V, a 4,6-meter, long-range, front-wheel drive crossover that has recently been re-released – and which, according to the company, is suitable for export. Also interesting is Aion UT which is a 5-door compact car, also with long range and front-wheel drive. Aion has established itself in South-East Asia – currently in Thailand and Malaysia. Australia will be the next country.

Aiways
Aiways is a small car manufacturer with 2 models. A crossover SUV U5 the size of the Volkswagen ID.4 and U6 – a 5-door hatchback. Both models have the same drivetrain, front-wheel drive, 63 kWh battery and a range of 400 km measured according to the WLTP standard. Aiways was on the verge of bankruptcy at the beginning of 2024. Then they decided to withdraw from the Chinese market and focus on Europe. Today they are established in 15 European countries – but the sales figures for 2024 are (so far) very low. The car brand is represented by a dealer network in Sweden. In 2022, the cheapest model cost just under SEK 430.000. According to Car.info There are 190 registered Aiways in the country.

Changan Deepal
Deepal is a car brand under the parent company Changan which is one of the major car manufacturers in China with several car brands. In 2024, Deepal produced 243.000 cars. Several models can be delivered as zero-emission vehicles or with a "range extender" in the form of a 1,5 liter gasoline engine. Deepal will establish itself in export markets from this year (2025). The first countries will probably be Thailand and Malaysia. Later they will establish themselves in Europe. The Crossover SUV model S07 could become the manufacturer's main draw in Europe. It is 4,7 meters long with a battery pack of either 67 or 80 kWh and rear-wheel drive. Another, completely new model, is S05 with a 56 kWh battery, rear-wheel drive and a length of 4,6 meters.

Lynk & Co
Lynk & Co is not just a car – it is a concept for “mobility” according to press releases. You can choose to purchase or rent a good car for as long as you need. The concept (or cars) has been introduced in several European cities, but not yet in Oslo. We wrote about Lynk & Co in Barcelona. Our impression is that it is no longer so much about short-term rental. Car sharing is offered by several players. In Sweden, rental is handled by ALD. Lynk & Co's cars are based on GeelyModel 01 was a sister model to the Volvo XC40 T5 plug-in hybrid. The brand new one Lynk & Co 02 is built on Geely's SEA2 platform, which is shared with the Volvo EX30 Plus Single Motor (RWD), among others. The cars are displayed in their own "Clubs". Orders can be made online, and car owners can rent their car back via Lynk & Co.
