One of the world's most beautiful cars, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and named after a gentle sand-filled Saharan wind.
Model history
Maserati Ghibli was produced from 1967 to 1973. The model was developed before Citroen took over Maserati in 1968. A narrow, wide front with folding headlights, front-mounted V8 engine and beautiful lines that ended in a straight Kamm profile. Many would probably characterize this car as one of the world's most beautiful cars. It was marketed as a Gran Turismo 2+2 seats, although the rear seats were almost like stools. The first cars got 4.7 liter V8 engines with double overhead camshafts over each engine bank, dry sump and 315 hp. Later, from 1969, came Ghibli SS with 4.9 liters and 355 hp. The gearbox was a 5-speed ZF manual. It could also be had with an automatic. In addition, later models also got ZF power steering.
In addition to the 2+2 coupe, a 2-seat Spyder with soft top was also made. According to Jim Cantrell, "The Maserati Ghibli: An exciting Evolution", a total of 1170 cars were produced – all variants included.
About the pictures
Both cars were photographed at two different London Classic Car Shows. The yellow car is a 1972 model – one of 29 right-hand drive coupes. It has a 5-speed manual gearbox and was originally imported and sold through a Citroen dealer in the UK. The blue car is a 1969 model which was originally red.
