Porsche 944 S3 became 968
Last version of the 9 series that started with the 924, and continued as the 944 and 944 S2. It is easy to confuse the 968 with the 944, but there are far more changes to the 968 than meets the eye. That is why Porsche chose the 968 instead of the 944 S3 as the model should actually be called. There were several factors that spoke in favor of introducing the 944 S3 as a completely new model instead of a facelift. The first was the new headlights which were no longer covered, but raised in the same way as the Porsche 928. Another, significant change was the 3,0-litre engine – inline four like its predecessors.
Model history
The model was introduced in 1991 as a 1992 model. The Porsche 968 received design changes that made it more similar to the 911 series. The front cover, mirror housing and new design of the ducts brought the model closer to the then 911 model, which was 964.
