Do you remember the 4CV?
I myself remember well what the traffic junction looked like at the very beginning of the 60s, but I cannot remember the Renault 4CV - the predecessor of the Renault Dauphine. I have thought that 4 CVs were not very popular in Norway. But that is wrong. Several people remember the Renault 4CV well. It was produced between 1947 and 1961 – the last 4 years in parallel with its successor the Dauphine.
Quite popular in the US as well
The pictures of the blue car with French registration plates were taken in connection with the annual “Fête Americaine” – America’s Festival – at Argeles-sur-Mer in the South of France. I thought that a 4CV would hardly have been in the USA, but after searching on Google, I saw that the Renault 4CV actually achieved some popularity in the USA. The small four-seater was marketed as the Renault 750 in English-speaking countries, the UK, Australia and the USA. There you could get your 750 with an automatic clutch – an electromagnetic clutch that releases by moving the gear lever.
Model history
In 1954, the 4CV received a mid-life facelift. The "grill" got 3 distinctive chrome ribs instead of 6 tight ones. It gave the car more character. In addition, the engine received a slightly smaller displacement (760 to 747 ccm) but more power (19 HP to 21.5 HP).

The main picture was taken on the occasion of Cars and coffee at Skui farm outside Oslo. The other blue car is photographed in Argeles-sur-Mer, France. The race-rigged 4CV is photographed in Arles-sur-Tech in France during preparations for a hill race. The green car under the tree is photographed on Fête d'auto in Palau del vidre, 2024. The second green car is pictured at a monthly car meet in Perpignan, France. The beige car is photographed at the same place and on the same occasion in 2023. It is also the sports car that is probably built up with components from Alpine.
