According to Aston Martin, the DB9 was considered such a big improvement over its predecessor, the DB7, that they chose to call it the DB9 – not the DB8.
New platform
Perhaps the most important improvement was Aston Martin's new platform. The new platform was called VH Platform where V stands for Vertical and H for Horizontal. The meaning may possibly play on modularity – a concept that can be used on a wide range of models? In any case, the platform is based on a glued and riveted aluminum chassis with carbon fiber composite reinforcements. The VH platform is available in 4 versions – the first was used for the DB9.
Model history
The Aston Martin DB9 was produced from 2004 to 2016 – all with V12 engines with 456 hp. Small changes were made until the 2013 model year. Then the cars got a pretty big makeover. The first change came in 2008. Visual changes include new ribs in the grille and new wing mirrors. In addition, the number of horsepower was increased to 470 and a new version of the automatic transmission from ZX that Aston Martin calls Touchtronic II. In 2010, a new, minor facelift came, with a new design for the front bumper. Small changes were also made to the front fenders. In 2012, the entire front was redesigned in such a way that it may be difficult to tell that it is a DB9. The lines towards the rear form an integrated rear spoiler. The cars also received more horsepower, now a total of 517 hp.
About the picture
The photograph was taken in a pleasant residential area around Knightsbridge in London. The car is a DB9 Volante, probably first registered between 2010 and 2012.
