The Aston Martin Vantage (2) was developed while Aston Martin was owned by Ford. Several variants were produced from 2005 to 2018.
Model history
The partnership with Ford was probably beneficial for Aston Martin because it gave them access to Ford's resources, including engine technology. The engines in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage were developed during the time together with Ford. The V8 engines, on the other hand, were based on Jaguar's AJ-V8 design. These were engines Jaguar developed before they were acquired by Ford. Early engines had a problem due to Nikasil-treated cylinder liners in the aluminum block, but that was before 2005 and not something Aston Martin had. In 2009, Aston Martin upgraded the V8 engine, increasing the volume from 4,3 to 4,7 liters. Several technical changes were also made, as well as an improved interior with infotainment system.
Early models could be delivered with Sportshift semi-automatic gearbox that allowed sequential gear shifting with paddles on the steering wheel. This system has given owners a number of problems, often related to software errors and problems with the clutch mechanism and associated electronics. The problems should have been fixed by careful follow-up of the service program. Later Touchtronic gearboxes (ZF) are not burdened with any such problems. In the choice between Sportshift and manual gearbox, many will recommend manual.
Vantage Coupe
The name "Vantage" has been used on several previous Aston Martin models and really just means "fast." The Vantage model discussed here is also called the Vantage 2 because Vantage was previously used as the model name for a variant of the Aston Martin V8 in the 1970s.
Vantage Roadsters
A term that Aston Martin uses for its open-top models is "Volante". However, open-top variants of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and V12 Vantage were marketed as Vantage. Roadster, but is also referred to as the Vantage Volante.
Advantage GT8
The Vantage GT8 was produced from 2017 as a special model in only 150 copies. The car has a 4,7 liter V8 engine that produces 446 HP. Despite a lot of "trim", the weight has been reduced by 100 kg. It is not only the car's great looks that make it look like a track car. The sound is absolutely formidable!
