The end of the 80 series
The Audi 80 (B4) was the last in the series before Audi decided to create the A4 line - with the same concept as before - a premium class mid-range car in competition with the BMW 3 series. The car pictured above is an Audi 80 Competition, a relatively rare special model with, among other things, a factory-fitted rear spoiler. The standard engine in this model was the 2,0E 16V 140 HP, 5-speed manual transmission and Quattro. According to the factory's specifications, 0-100 should go away in 9,8 seconds. The car was on display at Hellerud on the occasion of a car meeting organized by VACN (25-year meeting).

The Cabrio version (8G) was produced until 2000, i.e. 5 years after the Audi-80 series ended. The last models went under the designation Audi Cabriolet, but you can clearly see that it has its origins in the Audi B4.
The drivetrain followed the Audi-80 program. That is to say, it could be delivered with Audi's V6s on resp. 2,6 liters (150 HP) and 2,8 (174 HP), - or the great 5-cylinder 2,3 liter with 133 HP. These engines may not have delivered that much power, but they had good torque and a great six sound. From my own experience – with the 2,6-litre – I can add that the sixes were also quite thirsty, compared to today's engines.
About the pictures
The green car in profile is photographed along the street in Céret, France, 2024. The light yellow car is a 2,3 and is pictured at Hellerud on the occasion of the VACN meeting 2018. The red is pictured on Oksenøya and the blue on Storøya outside Oslo. The blue one is powered by a six, probably a 2,6 V6, while the red one has a 4-cylinder engine.
