Wedding car
As I cycled through the small southern French village of Saint-Jean-Pla-de-Courts, I saw that the town's restaurant was full to the brim, - and in the back street stood the wedding car fully decorated: a Citroën Mehari. It is 35 degrees. What other car could be better suited to transport the bride and groom?
Much in common with Dyane
The Citroën Mehari shares mechanics with the Dyane. It has the same 602 cc engine and 4-speed gearbox with umbrella gear. The body is made of plastic. The gaudy colors from the 70s did nothing to dampen the plastic feel. Today these cars are very popular in France. The price of a restored model is 15.000 Euros. Even though production has ended, the Mehari is not a rare car. You can build a new one if you want. All the mechanicals can be bought new and the molds for the bodies still exist.
About the pictures
I often see Méharis along the road, but rarely manage to take a picture. The white and the green ones were exhibited at car collections near Canet-en-Roussillon, southern France. The others were photographed in various small towns in the Pyrenees-Orientales, southern France. According to the Norwegian Vehicle Register, there are 15 Méharis in Norway, but none of them are pictured here on Terje's cars.
