More space and more luxury
The Ford Thunderbird 1958 model had several similarities with its predecessor from 1957. Nevertheless, there were major differences. The new Thunderbird had become a significantly larger car, with 4 seats, an extended wheelbase and a fairly straight roofline that should provide headroom in the back seat. In the United States, the model was called Square Bird. Ford had lifted the Thunderbird mk2 from being a simple, youthful compact 2-seater coupé to a premium mid-range car.
Model history
The 2nd generation Thunderbird was produced as a 1958, 1959 and 1960 model with minor changes each year. The biggest visible changes came on the 1960 model with, among other things, vertical ribs in the grill and 6 round taillights instead of 4. Available engines were the 452 V8 and 430 V8 – 5,8 and 7,0 liters respectively. Available variants were hardtop and convertible.
