Like the Jeep, the Land Rover was a World War II military vehicle that was revived after the war. It was Rover that produced them. As is well known, the Rover Group was incorporated into British Leyland, and further acquired BMW in 1998, which separated and sold Land Rover to Ford. Ford also owned Jaguar. In 2008, Indian Tata Motors bought Jaguar and Land Rover - and founded the subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover. The Land Rover Defender is still manufactured in Solihull, England.
