Popular during the Yapp era
The Maserati Biturbo was first produced as a 1981 model. It achieved some popularity during the yappiness era of the 80s. A car for those who thought German cars were too boring. The BiTurbo was the first model to be produced with a twin-turbo V6. Production took place during a turbulent period in the company's history, and quite a few faults with the cars were reported. It can probably be imagined that these cars had a better life as enthusiast cars (now veterans) than toys for Japs. In any case, they look fantastic, and sound really good. The Maserati Biturbo is not the world's best Maserati, but perhaps the Maserati that sold the most when new in Norway?
Engines
In the first years, the cars were only produced with carburetors. From the 1986 model year, cars came with electronic fuel injection. These models received an "i" in the model designation. The Maserati 2,0 liter V6 biturbo produced 180 HP with carburettor and 188 HP with injection in the standard version. The 2,0 liter "S" produced 205 HP with carburettor and 220 HP with injection. There was also a 2,5 liter V6 with carburettor. It was marked "E" and had 185 HP as standard and 205 HP as "SE". Biturbo was also delivered with a 2,8 liter V6 producing 225 HP (injection and catalytic converter). This engine was standard on the Maserati 228 – a Biturbo with a slightly larger front and rear.
