The company was founded in 1920 as a cork factory. It was not until 1960 that car production started, then with so-called "kei cars". Mazda has distinguished itself as the first (and only) manufacturer to succeed with Wankel technology. Between 1974 to 2015, Mazda was in partnership with Ford.
