Mercury was created by the Ford group in the 30s to be able to offer more exclusive model ranges. After the war, the company was merged with Lincoln to become Lincoln–Mercury. Although Mercury shared powertrains and technology with Ford, the models retained their own distinctive character. In 2011, Ford chose to focus on Ford and Lincoln.
