Model history
The Opel Commodore B was built as a luxury variant of the Opel Rekord D. While the Rekord was offered in a number of variants, the Commodore was offered as either a 4-door sedan or 2-door coupe. It also got its own engine series, based on 2,5 and 2,8 liter straight sixes with cam-in-head, as on many other Opel engines. The camshaft sits at the top, but does not operate the valves like an OHC engine, but like an OHV engine with short pushrods and rocker arms. The 2,5 engine was delivered as S or GS, while the 2,8 engine could be delivered as GS or GS/E with Bosch electronic injection. Both Opel Rekord D and Commodore B were produced as model year 1972 up to and including model year 1977.
