USA-inspired success
The Opel Rekord C was a milestone for post-war Opel. I dare to call the model the best Opel ever delivered. A US-inspired design with smooth surfaces and a modern Coke bottle profile. Large selection of variants and up-to-date engines. The Opel Rekord C introduced in 1966 as a 1967 model was a great success for Opel. The vast majority of us who lived at that time got to know a Rekord, - either owned one ourselves, or someone in the family had one, - or as a taxi.
Many designs
Rekord C could be delivered as a 2- and 4-door sedan, 3- and 5-door Caravan or 2-door hardtop coupé. In Norway, 3-door vans without side windows were a hit. In terms of engines, the 1700 and 1900 S were most popular. It could also be had with a 1500 engine - but I don't know of anyone with such a motorisation. Steering gear with 3 or 4 gears was standard on the sedan and station wagon, and 4-speed floor gear on the coupe model.
About the pictures
The gold-coloured Rekord, which is parked outside, was photographed in Tønsberg at the Hotel Klubben. The other gold-coloured car, a 1900 Coupé, is pictured at the Oslo Motor Show Exporama. The beige car is a 1968 model 1700 which is pictured at Ringebu.
