403 Sedan
The Peugeot 403 was produced between 1955-1966. The pontoon body brings to mind contemporary Mercedes-Benz. Both were very popular as taxis. Good space, reliable and economical in operation characterized the 403. In terms of engines, there was a 1300 and 1500 petrol - or 1800 diesel from 1960. The cars were produced almost unchanged all the time with only a few visible changes. For the 1960 model year, the 403 family got a low-cost version with a 1300 engine and stripped for equipment. It got a simpler grill consisting of a grid. In 1962, the grill got a pattern similar to that of the Peugeot 404. Both sedan models are photographed at French car meets near Perpignan. The beige car has the original lion-shaped hood ornament. It was replaced after one year due to the fact that it could be dangerous for soft road users.
403 Break Commerciale/Familiale
One of the world's most durable cars and among the best cars ever built in France. I think this is a Familiale because of the blank moldings around the side windows. Familiale had 3 rows of seats. Peugeot Familiale or Commerciale – station wagon version with extended wheelbase. Popular for African migrant workers in France. They took them home to Africa where they were allowed to serve for the rest of their lives.
403 Convertible
The Peugeot 403 Cabriolet is no ordinary sight. This car is equipped with the 1.5 liter engine 58 HP which gives a top speed of 135 km/h. It is a 1956 model – the first year the convertible was produced. It was only produced for 4 years. The pictured car has been mentioned elsewhere on the web and in the press. At the car meet, it was swarmed throughout the short time it was visiting. The special red color is the original color that could also be had for the sedan version. The pictures don't quite do this great car justice. It is an experience to see in real life with lots of chrome and decorations.
About the pictures
All the photos were taken on the occasion of a monthly car meeting held in the Perpignan area in France. The cars pictured are in very good condition and run very well, and are at almost every meet.
