Do you think there is something familiar about these cars? From 1981 to 2019, the "Geländewagen" was in active service in the French military, although it was not a Mercedes-Benz, but a Peugeot P4.
The French variant was built in France to the same specifications as the cars from Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puch, but equipped with Peugeot's own engines and gearboxes. The first cars got engines from the Peugeot 504 and gearboxes from the Peugeot 604. Like the cars with the Mercedes-Benz logo in the front, the P4 was both noisy and underpowered.
