Ferdinand Porsche founded his own engineering company in 1931 and was commissioned by the German authorities to design a car for the people - a people's car. As is well known, the concept was well received, and Porsche created its own, more sporty models based on the same concept. Porsche AG is today owned by Volkswagen AG.
