Riley first started as a bicycle manufacturer, then mass-produced cars. After several profitable years, they went bankrupt and were taken over by Lord Nuffield just before the war. The Riley RMA and RMB were elegant and sporty and were well received in the market. In 1952, Nuffield – and thus also Riley – merged with BMC – the British Motor Corporation.
