cars and coffee

It was the last day of September and there was a large turnout of beautiful cars for Cars and coffee at Øvrevoll Galopp. The nice autumn weather meant that some people arrived in open cars. I took a few pictures, as usual. The main picture is a brand new model from Ferrari – GTC4. Curious about what this is, I checked on the Internet. According to Wikipedia in Italian, the name GTC comes from the historic 330. The number 4 indicates 4 seats. The GTC4 can be 4-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. It comes with a V8 or V12. The model pictured has a 3,9 liter V8 that produces 610 HP and is rear-wheel drive. I have no idea what the price might be, but I am amazed by the exterior dimensions. 1,98 wide and 4,92 long! And I thought it looked quite “snappy”…

50s Mercedes-Benz

Three beautiful 50's Mercedes-Benz had taken up a position in a corner. Two "pontoon" Mercedes's, a 220 S, and a 170 S. I remember the 170 S being a common sight along the roads in the 60's. Pontoon models, especially with diesel, must have been popular as taxis, although it was before my time. The 6-cylinder 220 S looks modest in today's eyes, but it must have cost the same as a Cadillac in its time. Discreet luxury, one might say.

Volkswagen 1303 S.

This Volkswagen 1303 S got a lot of attention. It is tastefully styled. Several details have been modified, including headlights, taillights and mirrors. I notice that the chrome strip and handle on the hood have been removed. Then the kinship to Porsche comes out more clearly. The Porsche look is enhanced by the color - which I guess originates from Porsche. When the Volkswagen 1303 S came in the 1974 model year, it cost around NOK 30. The main features of the large people's car are the 000 engine, panoramic windscreen, large, round rear lights and a new dashboard that resembled an idea of what was to come in the Volkswagen Polo.

Before its time

With a length of just 3,8 metres, it could take on the Volkswagen in the US. Maybe make America like small cars? I have never previously seen a Metropolitain along the road, and I don't think they were ever attempted to be brought into Norway. Charming and cool. Imagine taking your Sunday trip in a series-produced car that you will surely never see the likes of!

Alfa Romeo – two models, same engine

These two white Alfa Romeos arrived at Cars and Coffee at the same time. The Alfa Romeo GT Junior is not a completely unusual sight, but the legendary Giulia Super is a rare sight across Europe, - despite the fact that it was produced for a number of years (1962-78). This is, in a way, the Italians' Volvo 240. The car that was used as official cars by the mafia, the Italian police and the Carabinieri, - by taxis and family cars for those who could afford an Alfa Romeo.

Dodge Viper

Dodge has a goal of delivering affordable cars to Americans without having to sacrifice engine power. The Viper is an example of what Dodge means by the term "sports car". 8,2 liter engine in a passenger car is huge. The pictured model is Series 2. It looks perhaps more harmonious - and not as uncompromising as the first Viper series.
