Lay the foundation for TR6

The Triumph TR5 was only produced for just over a year from 1967-69. Mechanically, it is identical to the successor TR6. It received a 2,5-liter inline six of 150 HP with mechanical fuel injection from Lucas. 4-speed gearbox that could be ordered with overdrive. Some cars were retrofitted with overdrives. It otherwise had independent suspension on all wheels as well as front and rear disc brakes.

Own USA model

When the injection system from Lucas did not meet American emissions requirements, a separate US version was made with dual Zenith-Strømberg carburetors. They gave lower power, 111 HP instead of 150 HP in the TR5. But in addition to cleaner emissions, owners may also have had less trouble, as the injection system from Lucas was not known to be very reliable. The American model was called the TR250. Overall, more TR250s were produced for the American market than TR5s in Europe. Subsequently, many TR250s have been brought back to Europe where several have been rebuilt to European specifications with injection. In the UK, conversions from LHD to RHD have also had to be made. In Norway, about as many TR250s as TR5s have been registered.

The yellow car shows the decals for TR6 with overdrive and PI – Petrol Injection – i.e. a British car – also with RHD. The photo was taken at The London Classic Car Show 2023.
