In Vauxhall's all-new model, GM was able to show off the beautiful lines of the 50s in European size.
Model history
The Vauxhall Victor first appeared as a 1957 model. The first model was called F or FA, while later versions of Victor were called FB, FC and so on. In terms of style, the Victor caught up with the American trends of the 1950s - more or less in the same way that Ford had done with its new Consul mk2. Some conservative English car buyers thought the Vauxhall Victor had acquired a vulgar look, but the sales figures were clear. Vauxhall was a sales success. But trends changed quickly, and already in 1961 Vauxhall had been able to present a sequel to the first Vauxhall Victor. In 1959, the Victor received a light facelift – with a new grill, new marker and turn signals and new bumpers. The lines and moldings along the sides and above the hood became simpler.
Engines
There was one engine choice, a 4-cylinder OHV engine of 1,5 liters with a single Zenith carburettor which produced 51 hp and a maximum torque of 116 Nm with a 3-speed gearbox with steering gear. (Source: Carfolio.com)
About the pictures
It's not that often you come across a Vauxhall these days - neither here at home nor in England. The car in gray metallic is a Vauxhall Victor Super photographed both at the Oslo Motor Show, 2023, and at Årnes in 2022 on the occasion of "Motordilla". It is a facelift model first registered in 1961. The yellow one with a green roof - also a "Super" - is pictured in a private car park at Fornebu 2024.
